First hoarfrost of the season on Hallasan
Temperature dips below freezing at higher elevations

The first hoarfrost of the season formed on Hallasan Mountain Monday morning.

According to the Jeju Regional Office of Meteorology, temperatures fell to minus 2.3 degrees at (윗세오름) Witse Oreum and minus 2 at (진달래밭) Jindalaebat.

That allowed the first hoarfrost to form. Observers say it makes for spectacular scenery, coupled with the fall foliage, which is still vibrant in many areas.

The weather office urged hikers going up to enjoy the sights to be careful of the ice that has begun to form at higher elevations.

올 가을 한라산 첫 상고대 관측

한라산에 올 가을 들어 첫 상고대가 관측됐습니다.

제주지방기상청에 따르면 오늘 아침 한라산 윗세오름이 영하 2.3도, 진달래밭 영하 2도 등 기온이 영하권으로 떨어지며 올 가을 처음으로 상고대가 피어났습니다.

특히 아직 가을 단풍이 한창인 가운데 상고대까지 피어나 절경을 이루고 있습니다.

기상청은 한라산 정상 부근에는 얼음이 어는 곳이 있어 안전사고에 주의를 당부했습니다.
