Olympic torch coming to Jeju Thursday, Friday
Relay will highlight Jeju’s unique characteristics

The Olympic torch relay for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games is in Jeju this Thursday and Friday.

The relay begins at 5:40 Thursday evening at (고마로) Gomaro in Ildo-2 dong, Jeju City. A traditional percussion group and mounted troops will accompany the flame on the first legs of the route.

An undersea robot will then carry the torch beginning at 12:10 p.m. on Friday. It will take it from (광치기) Gwangchigi Beach around Seongsan Sunrise Peak ? showing it the wonders of the deep and the dedication and persistence of the island’s women sea divers, or “haenyeo.”

167 people will bear the torch while it’s in Jeju.

2018 평창동계올림픽 성화가 내달 2일과 3일 이틀간 제주에서 봉송되는 가운데
다양한 홍보의 장으로 활용됩니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 다음달 2일 오후 5시40분부터 제주시 일도2동 고마로에서 진행되는 성화봉송은 민속보존회 풍물패와 기마대에 의해 이뤄집니다.

또 3일 낮 12시10분쯤 성산일출봉 광치기 해변에서는 해저로봇을 투입해
바닷속에서 성화를 봉송함으로써 제주해녀의 끈질길 생명력과 비경을 보여주게 됩니다.

한편 제주에서 진행되는 성화봉송에는 모두 167명이 참여합니다.
