‘Sambyeolcho and East Asia’ exhibition
Jeju National Museum from December 5 to February 28

Jeju National Museum will soon open a special exhibition entitled “(삼별초) Sambyeolcho and East Asia.”

“Sambyeolcho” is the name of a military unit that fought in a war and later resistance efforts against Mongolian forces in the late 13th century.

The exhibition, the first of its kind in Korea, includes Sambyeolcho relics discovered in Ganghwa, Jindo, Jeju, and Japan. Organizers say the collection offers a unique look at the major activities of the military unit and the time period.

About 570 items will be on display. They are from 20 places in Korea and seven Japanese institutions. The museum will also showcase materials about excavations, history, and art from the period, which was during the late Goryeo dynasty.

The exhibition begins Tuesday and runs through the end of February.

국립제주박물관, '삼별초와 동아시아' 특별전

삼별초를 주인공으로 한 특별전 '삼별초와 동아시아'가 국립제주박물관에서 열립니다.

다음달 5일부터 내년 2월 말까지 진행되는 이번 특별전은 13세기 후반 몽골과의 전쟁과 대몽항쟁을 펼쳤던 삼별초의 여정을 따라가는 형식으로 구성됐습니다.

강화에서 진도, 제주, 다시 일본에 이르기까지 삼별초의 여정을 살펴볼 수 있는 유물을 국내 최초로 한자리에 모아 그들이 겪었던 사건과 당시 시대상을 압축해 보여주게 됩니다.

이번에 전시되는 유물과 자료는 국내 20군데와 일본 7개 기관에서 수집한 570여 점과 삼별초가 활동했던 고려 후기의 사회상을 엿볼 수 있는 발굴자료, 역사·미술 자료 등이 함께 소개됩니다.
