‘Seoul should fix field placement problems’
Educational sector still reeling after death of local student

The National Council of Governors of Education says Seoul should improve the field placement program that some high school students use to get real-world job experience.

At a Thursday general meeting of the association in Jeollabuk-do, Jeju superintendent of education Lee Seok-mun says there is a limit to what schools can or will do to solve problems with the program.

He proposed that the government, either national or regional, assume oversight of the program, according to the Vocational Education and Training Promotion Act.

Association chairman Lee Jae-jung said it was crucial to re-work the program’s assessment parameters. Schools are evaluated according to how many of their students find jobs.

Local student Lee Min-ho was recently killed in an accident while taking part in his school’s field placement program.

"현장실습 국가 단위 제도개선 필요"

전국시도교육감협의회가 고 이민호군의 사망사고를 계기로 안전한 현장실습을 위한 국가 단위의 제도 개선을 촉구했습니다.

이석문 제주도교육감은 오늘(30일) 전라북도교육청에서 열린 전국시도교육감협의회 총회에서 "현장실습 업무를 학교가 떠맡는 상황에서는
나타난 문제를 근본적으로 해소하는 데 한계가 있다고 강조했습니다.

그러면서 직업교육훈련촉진법이 규정하는 대로 현장실습 산업체 선정과 지도 감독 등을 국가나 지방자치단체의 의무로 이행해야 한다고 말했습니다.

이재정 협의회장도 학교를 평가하는 취업 성과주의를 근본적으로 개선해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
