3. Foreign workers begin arriving for seasonal farmwork
41 laborers scheduled to arrive in Jeju City by end of year

Foreign workers are starting to arrive to help fill a labor shortage at local farms.

Jeju City officials say the four Vietnamese who arrived May 10th were the first of 41 foreign workers who will arrive through the end of the year.

They are being sent to farms in Gujwa-eup, Jocheon-eup and Hangyeong-myeon to help harvest garlic and mandarin oranges.

Each foreign laborer will be allowed to stay and work on the island for 90 days.

부족한 농촌 일손 해소를 위한 외국인 계절근로자가 단계적으로 제주로 들어옵니다.

제주시에 따르면 베트남 외국인 계절근로자 4명이 어제(10일) 입도한데 이어 연말까지 모두 41명이 제주를 찾습니다.

이들은 제주시 구좌와 조천읍, 한경면 등 3군데 지역 농가에 배치돼 마늘 수확과 감귤원 작업 등에 참여하게 됩니다

외국인 계절근로자들은 단기취업 비자를 받아 90일동안 제주에 체류할 수 있습니다.
