Japanese encephalitis vaccinations advised for infants, the elderly

Researchers recently discovered a number of mosquitoes of the type that carry the Japanese encephalitis virus.

The Jeju Institute of Health and Environment says 15 of the 70 mosquitoes it recently caught in Jeju City were disease vectors.

The province issued a Japanese encephalitis warning last month, encouraging vaccinations for infants as well as the elderly.

제주도보건환경연구원은 지난 7일, 제주시 채집장에서 잡힌 모기 70여 마리 가운데
작은빨간집모기 15마리가 확인됐다고 밝혔습니다.

제주도는 지난달부터 일본뇌염 주의보를 발령한 가운데 영유아나 노약자를 대상으로 뇌염 예방접종을 권하고 있습니다.
