5. More ‘off-island Jeju ID cards’ being issued
2,700 former Jeju residents have received cards this year

A growing number of Jeju residents who now live elsewhere are seeking official Jeju ID cards that prove as much.

The province has issued 27-hundred of these “off-island ID cards” this year. That’s 18 percent more than during the same period last year.

Some 20,000 people received the cards in 2011, when they were first issued. Applications for them then dropped. The province issued 68-hundred in 2016 and 7,000 last year. Officials estimate that they will hand out 8,000 this year.


재외제주도민증 발급 증가

재외제주도민증 발급사례가 꾸준히 늘고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 올들어 지난달까지 발급된 재외제주도민증은
2천 700여건으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 18% 증가했습니다.

재외도민증 발급자수는 발급 첫 해인 2011년 2만여명으로 가장 많았고 이후 감소추세를 보이다 2016년 6천 800여명, 지난해 7천여명으로 늘었으며
올해의 경우 8천건을 넘어설 것으로 제주도는 예상하고 있습니다.
