3. Fire department on special alert around Buddha’s Birthday
Fires in recent years caused ￦90m in damage to island temples

The fire department is on special alert to make sure no blazes break out at temples over Buddha’s Birthday.

Firefighters and equipment are stationed at the island’s seven major temples on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Authorities are also increasing real-time fire patrols and other monitoring activities.

Finally, 2,000 volunteer firefighters are stand-by to respond to large fires.

There have been four fires in temples over the last five years. They caused about about 90 million won in property damage.

석가탄신일 화재 특별경계근무 실시

제주도 소방안전본부가 21일부터 3일동안 석가탄신일 '화재 특별 경계근무'를 실시합니다.

이에 따라 도내 7개 주요사찰에 소방 대원과 장비가 전진배치 되며 실시간 소방순찰 등 화재예방 감시체계가 강화됩니다.

특히 대형화재 발생을 대비해 의용소방대원 2천 명을 비상대기합니다.

최근 5년 동안 도내 사찰에서는 모두 4건의 화재로 9천여 만 원의 재산피해가 발생했습니다.
