Eoseungsaeng cemetery known for its ‘natural’ burial options

Every year more people choose to have their remains interred in Hanul Nuri Park at Eoseungsaeng.

Jeju City officials say 8,600 people have been laid to rest in the cemetery since its opening in 2012.

In 2016, 1,480 were buried there. That jumped to 2,600 last year, and to 390 during the first quarter of this year, which is 23 percent more than during the first four months of last year.

Most people, 65 percent, are choosing to have their remains buried in grass fields. The next most popular option is burial pods where trees and flowers then grow.



한울누리공원 이용 매년 증가세

제주시 어승생 한울누리공원 이용이 해마다 늘고 있습니다.

제주시에 따르면, 2012년 개장 이후 지금까지 한울누리공원에 안장된 유골은
8천 6백여 구로 집계됐습니다.

연도별로 보면 2016년 1천 4백 80여 구에서 지난해 2천 6백여 구로 꾸준히 증가했고 올해 1분기에는 390구가 안장돼 지난해 같은 기간보다 23% 늘었습니다.

유형별로는 잔디형이 65%로 가장 많고 화초형, 수목형, 정원형 순으로 파악됐습니다.
