Catch 10.7% larger compared to last year

Local fishermen are hauling in much larger catches.

The Honam Regional Statistics Office says the first quarter catch was 15,000 tons. That’s 10.7 percent higher than in the first quarter of last year.

Because of slightly warmer than average water, the mackerel catch was up 117 percent, the hairtail catch 47 percent, and the yellowtail catch 127 percent.

It wasn’t all good news, though: the tilefish catch dropped. Fishing vessels for them were kept confined to port because of frequent high seas.

고등어 · 갈치 많이 잡혀... 1분기 어업생산량 증가

올들어 제주연안에서 고등어와 갈치가 많이 잡히면서 어업생산량이 크게 늘었습니다.

호남지방통계청에 따르면 올해 1분기 제주지역 어업생산량은 1만 5천톤으로
지난해 같은 기간보다 10.7% 증가했습니다.

따뜻한 수온의 영향으로 고등어와 갈치가 각각 117%, 47% 증가했고, 방어도 지난해보다 127% 어획량이 늘었습니다.

반면, 옥돔은 잦은 풍랑주의보로 작업일수가 줄면서 어획량이 줄었습니다.
