More visitors expected as Beijing eases group travel ban

The provincial government is considering setting up travel agencies specializing in Chinese tourists to Jeju.

Last year, Beijing effectively banned group tours to Korea in response to Seoul’s decision to deploy the THAAD anti-missile system. That hard stance appears to be softening, and more Chinese tourists may soon be heading this way again.

During a Wednesday briefing on the matter at the provincial office, officials discussed the details of establishing special travel agencies for them. They will now review the legal justification for the proposal.

The province has also announced crackdowns on crimes committed by Chinese nationals and illegalities in the tourism sector, including unlicensed tour guides.

이를 위해 조만간 전담팀 구성해 법적, 제도적 근거를 검토한다는 계획입니다.

이와 함께 중국 관광객들의 범죄 예방활동을 강화하고 무자격 가이드 등 관광사범 단속 체계를 구축할 계획이라고 덧붙였습니다.
