Sales at Jeju’s duty-free shops hit record territory last month.

According to the Korea Duty Free Shop Association and the shops themselves, receipts totaled 179 million US dollars in April. That’s 74 percent higher than the 103 million dollars earned in April 2017.

Foreign shoppers led the trend??they spend 136 percent more than they had last year.

Analysts credit the sales spike to a growing number of Chinese merchants who buy products in bulk here to resell in their country.

지난달 제주지역 면세점 매출이 역대 최대치를 기록했습니다.

한국면세점협회와 도내 면세점 업계에 따르면 지난달 제주지역 면세점 전체 매출은 1억7천9백만달러로 지난해 같은 기간 1억3백만달러보다 74% 증가했습니다.

특히 외국인 매출액은 지난해 같은 기간보다 136% 증가했습니다.

이는 대량으로 물건을 구매하는 중국인 보따리상들의 판매가 크게 늘었기 때문으로 분석됐습니다.
