3. Yemeni refugees denied visa-free entry to Jeju beginning Friday
Most of the 470 now here seeking refugee status

National officials are making it harder for people from Yemen to apply for refugee status in Korea.

The Ministry of Justice has added Yemen to the list of countries from which nationals are barred from visa-free travel to Jeju. That change goes into effect Friday.

There are now 12 nations on the list. Some of the others are Iran, Sudan, Syria, Macedonia, and Iraq.

There are 470 Yemenis in Jeju, and 400 of them have applied for refugee status.

내달부터 예멘 난민 무사증 입국 어려워

다음달부터 중동 예멘 난민 신청이 어려워질 전망입니다.

법무부는 최근 제주지역 무사증 입국불허 국가에 예멘을 추가하고 다음달 1일부터 본격 시행한다고 밝혔습니다.

이에 따라 제주도 무사증 입국이 금지된 나라는 이란과 수단, 시리아와 마케도니아, 이라크 등 12개국으로 늘어났습니다.

현재 제주에 입국한 예맨 국민은 470명으로 이 가운데 4백 명이 난민 신청자입니다.
