3. Area set aside for trial cultivation of ‘aram’ hyacinth beans
More resistant to damage than strain normally grown here

Local officials will create a special area to cultivate a new variety of hyacinth bean on a trial basis.

The “aram” variety is less prone to damage from falling than the (풍산) “pungsan” strain that is normally grown here. It can also be harvested by machine.

Researchers began testing the aram variety in 2014. It grew well enough in local soil that they decided to further their study through this project.

Jeju farmers raise about 80 percent of all the hyacinth beans grown in Korea.

신품종 나물콩 '아람' 시범재배단지 조성

제주에 신품종 나물콩 '아람'을 재배하는 시범단지가 조성됩니다.

'아람' 나물콩은 제주에서 주로 재배하는 품종인 '풍산' 나물콩에 비해 쓰러짐 등에 강한데다 기계 수확이 가능한 품종으로 꼽힙니다.

이미 지난 2014년부터 3년동안 제주 토양 적응 시험을 거쳐 선발됐습니다.

현재 제주에서 생산되는 나물콩은 국내 생산량의 약 80%를 공급하고 있습니다.
