1. Crackdown on illegal campaigning
Jeju Election Commission focusing on bribery, slander, “fake news,” etc.

With Election Day fast approaching and, as we just heard, early voting already underway, the Jeju Election Commission is working overtime to prevent and uncover any election violations.

In particular, authorities are making sure nobody connected to any campaign is providing transportation to the polls on either Election Day or for early voting. Illegal activities also include the offering of money, food, or valuables to voters; slander and the spread of false information, including so-called “fake news”; and campaigning for or against any candidate within 100 meters of a polling place.

Taking pictures of ballots inside the polling stations is also illegal.

The commission says everyone must be especially careful about accepting food or valuables from a anyone connected to a campaign. The recipient will be charged a fine of up to 50 times the value of what was received.

제주선관위, 선거법 위반행위 단속 강화

제주특별자치도선거관리위원회가 선거일이 다가오면서 위반행위에 대한 특별단속에 나섭니다.

특히 사전투표기간이나 선거일에 교통편의를 제공하거나 금품 또는 음식물을 제공하는 행위, 투표참여 권유를 대가로 한 금품제공행위, 가짜뉴스 등 비방.허위사실 공표, 투표소로 100미터 안에서 투표참여를 권유하거나
특정 정당이나 후보를 지지 또는 반대하는 행위를 중점 단속합니다.

또 기표소 안에서 투표지를 촬영하는 행위도 단속할 예정입니다.

제주도선관위는 선거와 관련해 금품이나 음식물을 제공받을 경우 최고 50배의 과태료가 부과되는 만큼 유권자들의 각별한 주의를 당부했습니다.
