Gangjeong has a new community center, which was built to help heal the strife village caused by the construction of a navy base there.

The city of Seogwipo recently signed a contract with the Gangjeong Village Association on center operations.

The 6.7-billion-won facility includes a senior citizens center, office space, a meeting hall, and rental housing units.

Seogwipo is working on an additional 20 projects in the village to improve and expand infrastructure and income for residents. They include building a new road and a solar energy farm, as well as helping the community install rain shelters.

강정마을 공동체회복 '커뮤니티센터' 완공

강정마을 공동체회복사업의 일환으로 첫 추진됐던 커뮤니티센터 건립 사업이 마무리됐습니다.

이에 따라 서귀포시는 최근 강정마을회와 커뮤티니센터 운영을 위한 위.수탁 협약을 체결했습니다.

강정마을 커뮤니티센터는 사업비 67억원을 투입해 경로당과 사무실, 의례회관, 임대주택 등을 갖추고 있습니다.

서귀포시는 커뮤니티센터 건립사업 외에 도시계획도로 개설과 태양광발전단지 조성, 비가림 시설지원 등 인프라 확충과 주민소득 증대를 위한 20개 사업을 추진중입니다.
