Gross income up \100b in 2017

China effectively banned group tours to Korea last year in response to Seoul’s decision to deploy the THAAD anti-missile system but, if you look at the balance sheet, 2017 was a still very good year for the local tourism industry.

The Jeju Tourism Organization says gross tourism income hit 5.6 trillion won.

That’s 100 billion more than in 2016 and 900 billion won more than in 2015.

Specifically, both domestic and international visitors spent more in the island’s duty-free shops. There was a split in restaurant sales, though??Koreans spent more, but non-Koreans spent less.

사드 여파 불구 제주관광 조수입 1천억 증가

사드여파에 따른 외국인 관광객 감소에도 불구하고 지난해 제주관광 매출이 크게 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주관광공사에 따르면 지난해 제주관광 조수입은 5조 6천억 원으로 잠정 집계됐습니다.

이같은 조수입은 2016년도 5조 5천억 원 보다 1천 억 원, 2015년도보다 9천억 원 이상 증가한 겁니다.

업종별로 보면 면세점 매출이 내, 외국인 모두 크게 상승한 것으로 나타났고 음식점업의 경우 외국인 매출은 감소했지만 내국인 매출이 크게 늘어 전체적인 상승세를 보였습니다.
