Red Cross medical team in Jeju through Friday

The Korea National Red Cross began Monday five days of medical care for the hundreds of Yemenis who have come here seeking asylum.

The Jeju Immigration Office says some 400 Yemenis arrived in Jeju last month seeking refugee status.

Most of them are not in good shape because they are either sleeping in the open or living together with many others in small rooms.

The Red Cross dispatched medical teams from the Gyeongbuk Sangju Red Cross Hospital to care for them in the Jeju Immigration Office’s parking lot, and it also plans to operate mobile clinics to make sure they are okay.

대한적십자사, 예멘 난민 신청자에 의료 지원

대한적십자사가 18일 부터 닷새동안 제주에 체류 중인 예멘 난민 신청자들을 위한 의료 지원에 나섰습니다.

제주 출입국·외국인청에 따르면 지난달 제주에 들어온 예멘인이 4백여명에 달하고 이들 대부분이 난민 자격을 신청했습니다.

이들 중 상당수는 제주 시내에서 단체로 숙박을 하거나 노숙을 하고 있어 건강상에 어려움을 겪고 있습니다.

이에 대한적십자사는 경북 상주 적십자병원의 의료진을 파견해 제주 출입국 외국인청 주차장에서 무료 진료를 실시하는 한편 이동 진료도 실시할 예정입니다
