The provincial government, the Jeju Immigration Office, and the provincial police will provide humanitarian aid to Yemeni asylum seekers.

The province will use reserve funding to provide English interpretation services and medical care.

The immigration office promises fair screening of their applications for refugee status. It also says it will lift the restriction that Yemeni asylum seekers stay in Jeju, if there is a special reason for them to reside elsewhere in the country.

Police say they will increase patrols around areas where the asylum seekers are living and working.

486 Yemenis are in Jeju seeking asylum.

예멘 난민 신청자 '인도주의적' 차원 대응

제주에 체류하고 있는 예멘 국적 난민 신청자에 대해 제주도와 제주출입국.외국인청, 제주지방경찰청이 인도주의적 차원에서 공동 대응하기로 했습니다.

제주도는 예비비를 활용해 난민 신청자들에게 영어 통역과 의료비 등을 지원한다고 밝혔습니다.

제주출입국.외국인청은 공정한 난민 심사와 함께 거주지가 제주도로 제한된 난민 신청자에게도 특별한 사유가 있으면 제한을 해제하기로 했습니다.

경찰은 난민 신청자 숙소와 취업지 주변에서 순찰을 강화한다는 방침입니다.

현재 제주에는 내전을 피해 제주에 입국한 예멘인 486명이 난민 신청을 위해 체류하고 있습니다.
