Speaker touts accomplishments, announces hopes for next council

Jeju’s tenth provincial council began its last extraordinary session Tuesday.

In the opening ceremony for the eight-day session, council speaker (고충홍) Go Choong-hong said legislators have worked hard on a number of issues, including getting the navy to withdraw its right to indemnity for losses incurred by opposition to the construction of its base in Gangjeong, getting a local holiday designated to commemorate the April 3rd Incident, and bringing the island community together.

Go said he hoped that the next council would create real autonomy for the island through constitutional revisions and the implementation of more decentralization policies.

This council’s final agenda has 61 items.

제10대 도의회 마지막 임시회가 19일 본희의를 시작으로 8일간의 회기에 들어갔습니다.

고충홍 도의회 의장은 개회사에서 지난 4년간 도의회는 강정구상권 철회와 4.3 희생자 추념일 지방공휴일 지정 등 도민 통합을 위해 노력했다고 자평했습니다.

차기 도의회에서는 개헌과 정부의 지방분권 정책을 통해 진정한 지방자치가 완성되길 기원했습니다.

한편 이번 임시회에서는 조례안과 동의안 등 모두 61개 안건을 처리합니다.
