3. Authorities begin screening April 3rd Incident claims
1,400 claims this year from incident victims, their relatives

Authorities have begun screening new claims from people who say they or their relatives were victims of the April 3rd Incident.

The subcommittee working on the issue recently convened and began its first assessment of the claims it received in January and February. During those two months, eight people filed papers saying they were victims, and another 469 people claimed a family member was.

All of the claimants have passed an initial assessment, and the working committee will confirm that on July 2nd. The Central April 3rd Incident Committee will then finalize all decisions at a later date.

The province plans to complete all screenings by convening the working committee to review the claims on a monthly basis.

14-hundred people have submitted claims so far this year.

5년만에 재개된 4.3 희생자와 유족 추가신고에 따른 심사가 시작됐습니다.

제주 4.3사건 진상규명과 희생자 명예회복 실무위원회 기획소위원회는 최근 회의를 열어 올해 1 ~2월에 추가 접수된 후 실무위원회에 요청된 희생자 8명과 유족 469명에 대한 첫 심사를 진행했습니다.

이번 심사대상 모두 원안 의결됐으며 다음달 2일 열릴 예정인 4.3 실무위원회에 상정돼 확정되고 이후 4.3 중앙위원회에 최종 심의결정을 요청하게 됩니다.

제주도는 4.3 실무위원회를 매월 개최해 추가 접수된 희생자와 유족에 대한 심사를 조속히 마무리할 계획입니다.

올들어 지금까지 추가 접수된 희생자와 유족은 1천 400여명에 이르고 있습니다.
