Despite the current mostly fair skies, a seasonal rain front has formed south of the island, and forecasters say that signals the official start of the yearly rainy season. Mike Balfour reports.
The temperature is rising day by day.
It is believed that the fifth day of May in the lunar calendar is the beginning of the summer season in Korea.
This year’s rainy season started five days earlier than last year.

20-60 mm of rainfall on June 19, 20
There were 20 to 60 millimeters of rainfall on June 19 and 20 across the island.

More rain expected in coming days
The Korean Meteorological Administration forecasts that a rainy front will move into Jeju on June 22, 25 and 26.

Over the past 30 years, the rainy season has usually started in late June and continued for about one month, dumping 400 millimeters of rain on the island. This year is expected to be no different.

"제주도 장마의 30년 평균을 보면 6월 하순에 시작돼 7월 하순까지 약 한 달 정도 지속되며 강수량은 400mm 가량 됩니다. 올해 장마기간과 강수량은 평년과 비슷할 것으로 예측되고 있습니다."

Rainy season in 2017: 8 rainy days, 90 mm of rainfall
Last year, Jeju had only eight rainy days during the wet season and 90 millimeters of rain were recorded.

Heavy precipitation followed end of rainy season last year
After the monsoon season, an unexpected 430 millimeters of heavy rain were recorded in August, 2017.
