North and South Korea have agreed to hold new round of family reunions

Hundreds of people in Jeju may be affected by a decision last week between delegations from North and South Korea to hold reunions for people separated by the Korean War.

The Red Cross helped arrange the meeting Friday at Mount Kumgang in the North.

The Ministry of Unification says that, as of May, 56,890 people remained separated from their close relatives, and that 547 of them were in Jeju.

62 percent of them are men, 38 percent women, and 41 percent are in their 80s. By region, the plurality, at 21 percent, were born in (황해도) Hwanghae-do.

통일부에 따르면 지난 5월 기준으로 등록된 이산가족은 5만 6천 890명으로 이 가운데 제주지역에는 547명이 거주하는 것으로 조사됐습니다

남자가 62%, 여자는 38%이며 80대가 41%로 가장 많았고, 출신지역은 황해도가 21%로 가장 많았습니다.
