‘Funding needed for more people to screen petitions’

The governor says he will ask President Moon Jae-in for assistance in speeding up the screening of asylum petitions from the hundreds of Yemeni refugees on the island.

Governor Won Hee-ryong says Jeju needs financial assistance from Seoul to assign more officials to screen the applications, and that he will ask the president directly for such aid.

원희룡 지사가 문재인 대통령에게 예멘 난민 심사가 신속히 이뤄지도록 정부 지원을 건의하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

원 지사는 난민 심사를 위해서는 심사와 관리 인력이 더 많아야하고 정부 예산지원도 필요하다며 예멘 난민 심사와 난민 수용 판정이 신속히 이뤄질 수 있도록 조만간 대통령에게 직접 건의하겠다고 강조했습니다.
