1. Seoul opposes commercialization of medical care
‘Counter to the public good’

As officials prepare for a public opinion poll regarding Greenland International Hospital, the national government has come against for-profit medical care, like the type it would provide.

A Health and Welfare Ministry committee tasked with improving the country’s medical system said in April it opposed the plan to commercialize medicine, arguing doing so was against the public good.

Seoul then formulated a plan June 20th designed to implement policies in a way that allays the concerns about commercial medicine. Analysts say that decision supports the opposition to for-profit hospitals.

녹지국제병원 공론조사가 예정된 가운데 정부에서 의료 영리화에 대한 반대 입장을 밝혔습니다.

보건복지부 제도개선 위원회는 지난 4월 의료 공공성을 훼손하는 의료영리화정책을 추진하지 않겠다는 입장을 정부가 밝혀야 한다고 복지부에 권고했습니다.

이에 정부는 지난 20일, 건강관리서비스 등에서 의료영리화 우려가 발생하지 않는 방향으로 정책을 추진하겠다는 이행계획을 세우면서 사실상 영리병원 반대에
무게가 실리고 있습니다.
