2. Yellow corvina catch shrinking
From 12,900 tons in 2011 to 6,500 tons last year

Local fishermen have been hauling in far fewer yellow corvina in recent years.

Statistics Korea says the annual catch has shrunk by half in six years: from 12,900 tons in 2011 to just 6,500 tons last year.

Analysts say there are two reasons for the decrease: a 1.4 degree increase in water temperatures in the south sea, which has changed the fish’s habitat, and illegal fishing by Chinese vessels.

수온 변화와 불법 조업 등의 영향으로 참조기 어획량이 급감하고 있습니다.

통계청에 따르면 제주지역 참조기 어획량은 지난 2011년 1만 2천 9백여 톤에서
지난해 6천 5백여 톤으로 6년 사이 50% 가까이 줄었습니다.

남해 수온이 최근 50년 간 1.4도 오르면서 참조기 서식 환경이 변했고 중국어선 불법조업까지 기승을 부리면서 어획량이 줄어든 것으로 풀이됩니다.
