2. Changes to one of Jeju’s World Natural Heritage sites
Former buffer areas now considered part of core site

The World Heritage Committee has modified one of the island’s World Natural Heritage sites.

At a recent meeting, the committee passed an amendment that modified the designation of the upper part of the Geomunoreum Lava Tube System.

The change did not affect the total area of the site. It added what had been considered buffer areas to the core area. Some caves, including Utsanjeon, Bukoreum and the Dearim Tubes, are now considered part of the main site.

The provincial government will now formulate a plan to preserve those areas.

제주 세계자연유산지역이 확대 지정됐습니다.

세계유산위원회는 최근 회의를 열어 제주도의 거문오름용암동굴계 상류동굴군의 유산지역 변경안을 최종 의결했습니다.

총면적에는 변함이 없지만 완충지역 일부를 핵심지역으로 변경했고 기존 유산지역에 웃산전굴과 북오름굴, 대림굴이 추가됐습니다.

이에따라 제주도는 추가로 확대된 지역에 대해 보전관리 계획을 수립하기로 했습니다.
