2. Provincial police begin corruption crackdown
‘Deep-rooted social problems’ being targeted through end of September

The provincial police agency has announced a crackdown through September on what it calls “deep-rooted social problems.”

Police will be focusing on endemic corruption, like the misuse of personal connections and corruption in personnel policies and hiring practices. They will also be targeting embezzlement in redevelopment and reconstruction projects, as well as convalescent hospitals that are not run by medical practitioners.

The police agency has formed a special investigative squad made up of officers from two white-collar crime divisions for the crackdown. That squad will work with other detectives.

Police say they also have plans to make the most effective use of public reports of corruption over the next three months.

제주지방경찰청이 오는 9월말까지 우리 사회 전반에 뿌리내려 있는 생활적폐 특별단속에 나섭니다.

단속 대상은 이권개입이나 인사, 채용비리와 같은 토착비리를 비롯해 재개발, 재건축 과정에서의 횡령 등 행위, 비의료인이 운영하는 이른바 사무장 요양병원 등입니다.

경찰은 단속 기간동안 지방청 지능범죄수사대 2팀을 토착비리 전문수사팀으로 지정하고 경찰서 수사과와 함께 수사력을 집중하기로 했습니다.

특히, 이 기간 각종 비리사항에 대한 시민 제보를 활성화해 적극 대응하기로 했습니다.
