1. Second site feasibility study for new airport to begin
Local residents doubt validity of first study

Work is expected to soon begin on a second site feasibility study and a basic plan for Jeju’s second airport.

The transport ministry has scheduled a briefing on the study for Thursday afternoon at the Seongsan-eup community office.

Representatives from a consortium led by Posco Engineering & Construction, which is conducting the research, will brief local residents on the study.

The transport ministry originally decided to build the second airport in Seongsan-eup, but local residents and civic groups maintained that the original site feasibility study was poorly researched.

If no problems are found this time around, Posco E&C will immediately begin work on a basic plan for the airport.

제주 제2공항의 입지 선정 타당성과 기본계획 용역이 본격 추진됩니다.

국토교통부는 12일 오후 성산읍사무소에서 제주 제2공항 입지 선정 타당성 재조사에 따른 착수보고회를 갖습니다.

이 자리에서 용역을 수주한 포스코건설 컨소시엄이 입지 선정 타당성 재조사에 대해 지역주민에게 설명하게 됩니다.

국토부는 제2공항 예정부지로 성산읍 지역을 결정했으나 성산읍 주민들과 시민사회에서의 관련용역 부실 주장으로 이번에 재조사에 들어가게 됐습니다.

이번 타당성 재조사에서 이상이 없는 것으로 나오면 용역업체는 곧바로 제2공항 기본계획을 수립하게 됩니다.
