2. Province bidding for ‘Smart Farm, Innovation Valley’ project
National initiative ‘would create 3,500 local jobs’

The provincial government is working to get the island selected for the national government’s “Smart Farm, Innovation Valley” project.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs will designate four regions for the project. Local officials have teamed up with representatives from the Jeju Free International City Development Center, Jeju National University, and Jeju Technopark to work on the island’s bid.

The local plan calls for a 180-billion-won investment into a 182-hectare site in Hoecheon-dong, Jeju City. The money would be spent to build a production facility complex, a training center for young workers, and a state-of-the-art logistics system.

Provincial officials say the project would lead to the creation of 35-hundred jobs for young farmers and that it would stimulate production.

제주도가 스마트팜 혁신밸리 유치에 나섰습니다.

제주특별자치도는 제주국제자유도시개발센터, 제주대학교, 제주테크노파크 등과 함께 전국에서 4개소를 선정하는 농림축산식품부의 스마트팜 혁신밸리 유치에
공동 노력하기로 했다고 밝혔습니다.

유치계획을 보면 제주시 회천동 182헥타아르 지역에 사업비 1천 800억원을 투입해 분양형 생산 시설단지는 물론 청년보육시설과 스마트형 생산.유통 물류시스템을 갖추게 됩니다.

제주도는 이같은 사업을 통해 3천 500명의 청년 농업인을 포함한 신규 일자리 창출은 물론 생산유발효과도 클 것으로 기대하고 있습니다.
