Vibrant lotus flowers are one of Jeju’s summertime attractions, and they can be found in many areas of the island. Here’s Mike Laidman with a report on a festival dedicated to them.

Under a waterfall, broad-petaled white lotus flowers float on the blue.

Cute little water snowflakes and bishop’s weed float in water platters, while the Indian lotus, the largest lotus species in the world, shows off its beautiful petals in the water.

I didn’t know that there were so many lotus varieties. We took photos at the big pond where the lotus flowers are floating.

"몰랐던 연꽃이나 이런 것들 종류가 참 많고요. 큰 연못에서 예쁜 연꽃을 보니까 사진도 많이 찍고 좋았어요."

The 17th Lotus Festival is currently underway at (한림) Hallim Park.

Lotus flower festival is a big summer draw at Hallim Park

The gorgeous flowers attract visitors as they stroll along the garden pathways.

They take photos against flowery backgrounds, posing what seems like every few metres.

"날씨 너무 좋아요. 하늘 봐요. 이렇게 예쁘잖아요. 아침에는 하늘이 별로였는데 지금 하늘이 예뻐서 사진도 정말 잘 나와요."

An underwater variety, the bunched-spikelets bulrush, as well as loosestrifes, also offer wonder to visitors.
