The blueprint for the new town near the airport has been revealed. It includes a transfer center, medical facilities, commercial areas and 5,000 apartment units.

However, issues over an unsightly skyline are expected... as the buildings are planned to be over 20 stories high... to reduce noise pollution.

In the area south of the Jeju International Airport, a new town that includes a transfer center, medical facilities, commercial areas and apartments will be built.

The province has released the blueprint for the new town that it has worked on for the past 12 months.



The new town will sit on 1.6 million square meters of land near the airport.

The planned transfer center will connect airplane passengers with ground traffic and the new residential area consisting of 5,000 apartment units will have a new elementary school near (다호) Daho village.

The new town will also have commercial areas, medical facilities and a 210,000 square meter park.


For the new town creation, roads near the airport will be widened.

The province is broadening the road that links the transfer center and the airport from 35 meters to 90 meters to make the road symbolize the gateway to the island.

Measures to reduce noise from the airport are also released with the blueprint.

To limit the city over-expansion and reduce noise damage from airplanes, the province is building apartments of 20 stories or higher in the new town.

But issues over an unsightly skyline and the safety of airplane navigation are expected.

Laws allow buildings to reach up to 100 meters in the area. However, the height limit is much lower than that in reality to accommodate more people and make buildings play a role as sound-absorbing walls.

Presentations about the new town plan have been made at five communities this month and there will be the public hearing tomorrow(July 18th).

[slug] 86% of the site is private properties, Questions on compensation and relocation plan expected

86 percent of the new town site is currently private property. Therefore, questions from residents and landowners are expected to be focused on compensation, development plans and relocation plans at the public hearings.
