3. Shorter monsoon season, less rainfall in 2018
This year’s monsoon lasted between June 19 - July 9
The monsoon season is now over. Weather experts say this summer we experienced a shorter rainy season on the island than the yearly average.
The monsoon this summer lasted from June 19th through July 9th… according to the Jeju Meteorological Agency. That’s 21 days, which was 11 days shorter than the annual average. The actual days that it rained was also 4 days less this year.
As for the amount of precipitation, Jeju received 235mm of rain, down 160mm than the previous year.
The local weather agency attributed the shortened monsoon to the early arrival of the monsoonal front on Jeju, due to a northward expansion of the North Pacific Anticyclone.
