5. Coffee shop inspections target use of disposable cups
100 area cafes signed agreement in May to minimize use of plastic cups

The provincial government will be inspecting through the end of the month about 100 area coffee shops to ensure they are minimizing the use of disposable plastic cups.

This move comes after the Ministry of Environment signed an agreement with the shops in May to reduce waste and boost recycling.

The 100 cafes include 16 independent establishments and the branches of 21 major coffee shop brands.

Provincial and municipal officials will visit them to ensure they are following the agreement, which entails offering discounts to customers who use their own cups. Violators will be subject to administrative punishment.

커피전문점 1회용 컵 사용 점검

제주도가 이달 말까지 도내 커피전문점 등 100개 업체를 대상으로 1회용 플라스틱 컵 사용 여부를 집중 점검합니다.

이번 점검은 지난 5월 환경부가 커피전문점 등과 체결한 '1회용품 줄이기 재활용 촉진 협약'에 따른 겁니다.

대상은 도내 자발적 협약 업체 16곳과 21개 협약 브랜드 매장 등 100개 업소입니다.

이에 따라 제주도는 행정시와 함께 협약 매장을 방문해 개인컵 고객에 대한 할인혜택 등 협약 내용을 준수하는지 살피고, 위반 시 행정처분할 계획입니다.
