3. Marado seawater desalination project to be finished next year
‘Last step in solving water supply problems on islets near Jeju’

The provincial government says it will soon be finished solving the water supply problems on the small islands surrounding Jeju.

It is spending 2.5 billion won on a seawater desalination project in Marado. Officials say the work will be done by the end of next year, at which time the daily supply of freshwater will go from 75 tons to 100.

The province is also spending 1.8 billion won this year to replace and fix water pipes and drains on (횡간도) Hwenggando and (추포도) Chupodo, which are small islands near (추자도) Chujado.

Officials say the completion of this work will mean residents and tourists on the islets will no longer be bothered by an inadequate water supply.

마라도 해수 담수화사업을 끝으로 제주도내 부속섬 물 부족 문제가 해결될 전망입니다.

제주도는 마라도에 25억원을 들여 공급량을 하루 75톤에서 100톤으로 증설하는
해수 담수화사업을 내년 완료를 목표로 추진하고 있습니다.

이와함께 추자도 부속섬인 횡간도와 추포도에도 올해 18억원을 투입해 급수관과 배수관, 담수화 설비를 정비하고 있습니다.

사업이 마무리되면 도서지역 물 부족 문제가 해결돼 관광객과 주민 불편이 해소될 전망입니다.
