1. Electric energy demand hits new record
927,000 kW at 6 PM Wednesday

The heat wave has now lasted for more than two weeks, and that has pushed energy demand in Jeju to a new record, just two days after the previous record had been set.

According to the Jeju branch of the Korea Power Exchange, demand peaked at 927,000 kilowatts at 6 PM Wednesday.

Analysts expect the situation to continue, as the high temperatures are forecast to extend into August.

Exchange representatives foresee no power shortages. The island has 185,000 kilowatts of backup power, and only about 20 percent of it has been used, so there is still a substantial reserve.

제주 전력 사용량 이틀만에 최고치 경신

보름 넘게 폭염이 이어지고 있는 가운데 제주지역 전력 사용량이 이틀만에 올 여름 최고치를 갈아치웠습니다.

전력거래소 제주지사에 따르면 25일 저녁 6시 기준 제주 최대 전력수요량은 92만 7천 kW로 이틀전 최대 사용량을 경신했습니다.

특히 다음달까지 폭염이 이어질 것으로 예보되면서 전력 사용량은 앞으로도 크게 증가할 것으로 예상됩니다.

전력거래소는 예비 전력이 18만 5천 kW, 운영 예비율은 20%로 아직 여유가 있는 상황이라 밝혔습니다.
