12 more countries excluded from program

National authorities have further restricted the countries from which people may come to Jeju without a visa.

The Ministry of Justice said Tuesday it is doubling the number of countries whose citizens do not qualify for a visa waiver from the original 12 to 24.

The nations added to the list include Egypt, Gambia, Senegal, and Myanmar.

There has been a spike this year in the number of refugees coming to Jeju from the Middle East. Removing Yemen and other countries from the visa waiver program is part of Seoul’s response to the situation.

제주특별자치도의 무사증 입국 불허 국가가 늘어납니다.

법무부는 31일 제주특별자치도 무사증 입국 불허 국가를 기존 12개국에서 24개국으로 늘린다고 밝혔습니다.

이에따라 이집트와 감비아, 세네갈, 미얀마 등 12개 나라 국민은 사증 없이는 제주도에 입국할 수 없게 됩니다.

올해들어 제주에 중동 국가를 중심으로 난민 신청이 급증하면서 정부는 예멘을 비롯해 무사증 입국 불허국가를 늘리고 있습니다.
