Violators face fines of up to ￦2m

Authorities have started enforcing new rules designed to minimize the use of disposable cups at coffee shops and fast food restaurants.

Following some confusion about the initiative, Ministry of Environment representatives explained the inspection guidelines Wednesday during a meeting with regional government officials from across the nation.

The guidelines state that penalties be imposed only after comprehensive consideration of the particular case, including whether customers had placed take-out orders.

If establishments offer disposable cups without being asked to do so by customers, they can be fined up to two million won, depending on the number of violations.

앞으로 매장 내에서 일회용컵을 제공할 경우 면적과 위반 횟수에 따라 최고 200만원의 과태료가 부과됩니다.
