4 indictments so far related to June 13 regional elections

Investigations are speeding up into possible violations of the Public Official Election Act during the June 13th regional elections.

The Jeju District Prosecutor’s Office says it has finished its inquiries into 17 of the 53 people who were charged with infractions.

Four were indicted and the remaining 13 were either found not guilty or the charges against them were dismissed.

Two were indicted for providing a bus for use during the opening ceremony of a provincial council candidate’s campaign office, one was indicted for damaging campaign posters, and the fourth was indicted for attempting to place a paid campaign advertisement on social media.

Governor Won Heeryong was accused of spreading false information. The police are investigating that case.

지방선거 선거사범 수사 속도…4명 기소

지난 6.13 지방선거와 관련한 공직선거법 위반 수사가 속도를 내고 있습니다.

제주지방검찰청은 지방선거 기간 공직선거법으로 입건된 전체 53명 가운데
17명에 대한 수사를 마무리했다고 밝혔습니다.

이 가운데 4명은 기소해 재판에 넘겼고 나머지 13명은 혐의없음 또는 각하했습니다.

현재까지 기소한 선거사범 유형별로는 도의원 후보 선거사무소 개소식에 버스를 제공한 혐의 2명과 선거현수막 훼손 1명, SNS 유료 선거광고 의뢰 1명입니다.

원희룡 지사는 허위사실 공표 혐의로 고발돼 경찰 조사가 진행되고 있습니다.
