2. Free meals at all island high schools from 2nd semester
Education office covering full cost of ￦6.8b program

All high schools in Jeju will provide free meals to students from the upcoming second semester.

The provincial council’s special committee on budget and accounts on Thursday added 3.1 billion won to the program by adjusting the education office’s supplementary budget bill.

The meal program costs 6.8 billion won. The education office had originally set aside 3.7 billion for it, with a plan to negotiate with the provincial government about covering the remaining 3.1 billion won.

The province opposed that idea, with representatives saying there had been no official agreement about it.
The education office will therefore fund the entire meal program for the upcoming semester from its budget.

고교 무상급식 2학기 전면시행…추경안 증액

올해 2학기부터 제주지역 고등학교 무상급식이 전면 시행됩니다.

제주도의회 예산결산특별위원회는 2일 교육청 추가경정 예산안에 대한 계수조정을 통해 고등학교 급식비 지원 예산으로 31억 여원을 증액했습니다.

당초 교육청은 무상급식에 필요한 68억원 가운데 37억원을 이번 추경에 반영하고
나머지 31억원은 제주도와 협의하겠다는 입장이었습니다.

그러나 제주도는 이부분에 대해 교육청과 공식적인 협의가 없었다며 난색을 보여
결국 이번 2학기에는 교육청 자체 예산으로 시행하게 됩니다.
