3. More recyclables being buried in rural landfills
2,200 tons through end of July this year

A growing number of recyclables on the island are not being recycled??they’re going into rural landfills.

The Jeju City Environmental Facility Management Office says 2,199 tons of recyclables had been buried in rural landfills this year through the end of July. That’s 25 percent more than during the first seven months of last year, and it’s one-point-seven times as much as in 2016.

The office will hire ten additional workers this month to handle the increased workload.

읍·면 매립장 재활용품 반입량 급증

최근 읍.면 매립장에 반입되는 재활용품 양이 크게 증가하고 있습니다.

제주시 환경시설관리소에 따르면 올들어 지난달까지 읍면 매립장에 반입된 재활용품은 2천199톤으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 25% 증가했습니다.

이는 지난 2016년과 비교하면 1.7배 증가한 규모입니다.

제주시 환경시설관리소는 재활용품 반입 증가에 따라 이달부터 선별인력 10명을 추가 채용해 재활용품 처리에 나설 계획입니다.
