5. Nominations open for ‘Heonma Gongsin Kim Manil Award’
Award named in honor of Joseon-era Jeju patriot

The Jeju branch of the Korea Racing Authority and the (헌마공신) Heonma Gongsin Commemoration Service are accepting nominations through the end of the month for the second (헌마공신 김만일) “Heonma Gongsin Kim Manil Award.”

The award is for individuals or groups who have contributed to the development of the horse industry and the preservation of traditional horse culture.

A committee will review all nominations and present the award to the winner at the Jeju Horse Festival in October.

Kim Manil was a Jeju man who donated thousands of horses to the government when Japan invaded the country and at other times of national need. For his efforts, he was granted the position of (숭정대부) “sungjeong daebu,” a first rank official.

31일까지 '헌마공신 김만일상' 후보자 접수

한국마사회 렛츠런파크 제주와 헌마공신 김만일 기념사업회가 오는 31일까지 '제2회 헌마공신 김만일상' 후보자를 접수합니다.

추천 대상자는 말산업 발전과 전통 마문화 계승에 기여한 개인이나 단체 누구나 가능합니다.

수상자는 다음달 심사위원회를 통해 결정되며 10월에 열리는 제주마축제에서 시상이 이뤄집니다.

헌마공신 김만일은 조선시대 임진왜란 등 나라가 위험에 처했을 때마다 말 수천마리의 군마용으로 헌납해 임금으로부터 헌마공신이라는 칭호와 함께 종1품인 숭정대부 품계를 받은 제주의 대표 위인입니다.
