4. Girls’ HS in Burundi built in honor of Choi Jeong-suk
Choi was Jeju’s first superintendent of education

A new girls’ high school in Africa was built in honor of the late (최정숙) Choi Jeong-suk, the first superintendent of the Jeju Provincial Office of Education.

The school, supported by the Korea Hope Foundation, will become Burundi’s first national girls’ high school when it opens September 10th.

It has six classrooms, a dormitory and a library. 225 students are expected to attend.

In addition to being Jeju’s first superintendent of education, (최정숙) Choi Jeong-suk was an independence fighter and a medical worker. He was also known for as a religious person and for his dedication to Jeju development.

아프리카에 '최정숙 교육감' 여고 건립

아프리카 부룬디공화국에 초대 제주도교육감을 지낸 고 최정숙 선생을 기리는 여자고등학교가 준공됐습니다.

고 최정숙 선생을 기리는 모임과 한국희망재단이 협력해 추진한 이 학교는 아프리카 브룬디 최초의 국립여자고등학교로 다음달 10일 정식 개교합니다.

학교는 6개 교실과 기숙사, 도서관 등을 갖추고 있고 학생 정원은 225명입니다.

초대 제주도 교육감 최정숙 선생은 독립운동가이며, 의료인, 종교인으로 제주 발전을 위해 헌신한 인물입니다.
