1. Most island soil classified as ‘dry’
Proper moisture in only 10% of monitored areas

Analysts say they have found further evidence of the seriousness of the going drought??most of the island’s soil has dried out.

According to Jeju Agricultural Research & Extension Services, only three of the 30 areas it monitors have proper soil moisture. They include Donghong-dong and Jeoji-ri.

The remaining areas display varying degrees of drought??6 were classified as “very dry,” 14 as “dry,” and 7 as “slightly dry.”

(신엄리) Shineom-ri, (신촌리) Shinchon-ri, (동복리) Dongbok-ri, and (동명리) Dongmeong-ri were among the driest areas, with soil moisture tension surpassing 500 kilopascals.

토양수분 관측소 대부분 '건조'…가뭄 심각

제주 대부분 지역에서 토양수분이 건조해 가뭄의 심각성을 드러내고 있습니다.

제주도 농업기술원에 따르면 도내 가뭄 관측소 30곳 가운데 토양수분이 적절한 곳은 동홍동과 저지리 등 3군데에 불과했습니다.

나머지 관측소에서는 매우 건조 6곳, 건조 14곳, 약간 건조 7곳으로 대부분 가뭄 현상이 나타나고 있습니다.

특히 신엄리와 신촌리, 동복리, 동명리 등은 가뭄판단지수가 500 킬로파스칼을 넘어 모든 관측소 가운데서도 가장 건조한 것으로 나타났습니다.
