Crackdown on illegal camping, more patrols

Authorities say they will do more to prevent crimes and enhance the safety of popular holiday destinations.

The province has banned camping on breakwaters and other areas not specifically designated for it. Provincial authorities will also clamp down on campers who have been illegally using facilities for an extended period.

The government will also run a pilot program to install security screens to prevent illegal recordings by secret cameras in public restrooms at holiday destinations. And authorities will ensure all emergency safety bells for women are working properly.

Finally, night-time safety patrols at beaches that remain open at night will be extended into the early hours of the following day.
