1. Bijarim Forest Road expansion suspended
‘Province will minimize environmental damage when work resumes’

Following exclusive KCTV news coverage of environmental damage caused by expansion work on Bijarim Forest Road, the provincial government says it is suspending the project and looking for other ways to finish the work.

At a Friday press conference at the provincial office, Vice governor Ahn Dong-woo expressed regret for the controversy over the issue.

He added that he will listen to the opinions of local residents, the provincial council, and experts before announcing a final plan for the project.

The vice governor stated firmly, however, that the Bijarim Forest Road expansion will not be cancelled. He said the government will undertake a comprehensive review of the project and seek to minimize damage to the cedar trees in the area.

경관 훼손 논란을 일으킨 것에 대해 유감을 표했습니다.

그러면서 도민과 도의회, 전문가 의견을 수렴해 최종 계획안을 마련해 발표하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

다만 사업 백지화는 고려하지 않고 있으며 삼나무 훼손을 최소화하는 방안 등에 대한 종합적인 검토를 할 예정이라고 선을 그었습니다.
