4. Local seaports handling more freight
11,400 tons this year through end of July

More freight is being shipped through the island’s seaports this year.

Provincial officials say the tally at the end of July was 11,400 tons??6.6 percent more than during the first seven months of 2017.

Oil shipments increased by 4 percent, while fertilizer was up 14 percent.

On the other hand, a slowdown in the construction industry saw less sand and cement going through island ports. The amount of agricultural product freight also declined, by 35 percent, because of falls in white radish and mandarin orange production.

제주 항만 물동량 증가…유류·비료↑

올들어 제주지역 항만을 통한 물동량이 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주도에 따르면 올해 7월말 기준 도내 항만을 통해 오간 물동량은 1만 1천400여톤으로 지난해 같은기간보다 6.6% 증가했습니다.

품목별로 보면 유류가 4%, 비료가 14% 이상 증가한 것으로 나타났습니다.

반면, 건설경기 침체로 모래와 시멘트 등이 감소했고, 월동무와 감귤 등의 생산량 부진으로 농산물도 35% 가량 줄어든 것으로 집계됐습니다.
