Officials warn of coastal damage during high tide

Local officials are growing concerned about possible coastal damage in low-lying areas as local sea levels are forecast to temporarily rise considerably.

The provincial government says astronomical conditions are causing seawater levels to hit their highest point of the year. The situation will be worse at high tide.

The high tides could isolate some areas of the coast, so authorities are asking people to refrain from walking, driving, and fishing near the shore when they hit.

Officials also recommend that cars be parked at higher elevations to avoid any possible water damage.

당분간 제주 부근 바다 해수면이 높아질 것으로 예보돼 저지대 피해가 우려되고 있습니다.

제주특별자치도는 천문조에 의해 바닷물 높이가 1년 중 가장 높은 시기라며 만조 때 해안가 저지대 침수 피해가 없도록 주의를 당부했습니다.

갯바위는 고립 가능성이 높은 만큼 주의해야 하며 해안도로 산책이나 낚시, 차량 운행을 자제해 줄 것을 당부하고 있습니다.

또한 만일의 사태에 대비해 저지대에 주차한 차량은 높은 곳으로 옮겨야 한다고 강조하고 있습니다.
