4. Water at Jeju beaches tests clean
Higher water temperatures have not resulted in more microbes

Officials say the water at local beaches has tested clean of contaminants despite it being warmer than average because of this summer’s heat wave.

The Jeju Public Health and Environment Research Institute says water surveys at 17 local beaches found colon bacillus and enterococcus bacteria within acceptable levels.

The tests were all conducted after the beaches were officially opened for the season, but the water was judged to be just as safe as it was prior to the openings.

The institute says beachgoers should nevertheless remain cautious, because the warmer water is more conducive to the proliferation of microorganisms.

고수온 현상에도 해수욕장 수질 '양호'

폭염으로 인한 고수온 현상에도 도내 해수욕장 수질에는 문제가 없는 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주도 보건환경연구원은 도내 17개 해수욕장을 대상으로 대장균과 장구균 2개 항목을 조사한 결과 모두 적합한 것으로 조사됐다고 밝혔습니다.

특히 이번 조사는 해수욕장 개장 이후에 이뤄졌지만 개장 전과 마찬가지로 안전한 수질상태를 보였습니다.

보건환경연구원은 다만 바닷물 온도가 높으면 미생물이 쉽게 증식할 수 있어 이용객들의 주의가 필요하다고 당부했습니다.
