Local politicians, residents mourn former president who died in 2009

Locals gathered Friday at Jeju City’s Sinsan park to commemorate the 9th anniversary of former president (김대중) Kim Dae-jung’s death.

Local politicians and area residents were among the 100-or-so mourners. The service began with a silent tribute. That was followed by video of the former president giving a speech and then a funeral address. Mourners then laid flowers and burned incense in his memory.

Kim’s widow, (이희호) Lee Hui-ho, who chairs the Kim (김대중) Dae-jung Peace Center, sent a video message, in which she expressed her hope that her husband’s dream of peace between North and South Korea is realized.

故 김대중 대통령 서거 9주기 추도식 거행

고(故) 김대중 대통령의 서거 9주기를 맞아 17일 오전 제주시 신산공원에서 도민 추도식이 열렸습니다.

추도식은 도내 정치인과 일반 도민들 100여 명이 참석해 묵념과 고 김대통령의 육성연설, 추도사, 헌화와 분향등의 순으로 진행됐습니다.

특히, 김대중평화센터 이희호 여사는 영상메시지를 통해 '고 김 대통령이 꿈꿨던 남북 평화에 대한 희망을 이어가길 바란다'고 전했습니다.
